Verified Calling & Caller ID

Quick Reference Keywords: Verified calling · Caller ID name · CNAM · SHAKEN/STIR · Spam Likely · Business verification

Overview

Settings → Phone → Verified Calling & Caller ID lets you register your business identity with telecom carriers so your outbound calls are trusted. Registration covers two things:

  • Verified Calling (SHAKEN/STIR) — your outbound calls are cryptographically signed as coming from a verified business. On supported carriers the recipient sees a "verified caller" checkmark, and your calls are far less likely to be labeled "Spam Likely."
  • Caller ID Name (CNAM) — your business name (up to 15 characters) is displayed as the caller ID when you call, instead of just a phone number.

Verification applies to all of your phone numbers — your primary number and any AI voice agent numbers. Numbers you purchase later are added to your registration automatically.

Before You Request Verification

You'll need:

  • At least one phone number purchased on your account
  • Your legal business details: legal business name, EIN (tax ID), business address, and website
  • An authorized representative — an owner, officer, or executive of the business (name, email, phone, title)

Important: Carriers verify this information against official records. The legal business name must match your EIN filing, and your website should clearly belong to the same business. Mismatches are the most common reason requests are rejected.

Requesting Verification

  1. Open Settings → Phone
  2. In the Verified Calling & Caller ID card, click Request Verification
  3. Review the pre-filled business details (pulled from your account setup) and correct anything that doesn't match your official records
  4. Fill in the authorized representative information
  5. Optionally enable Register Caller ID Name (CNAM) and enter your display name
  6. Click Submit for Review

Your request is submitted to the carrier vetting process. Review typically takes a few business days. Statuses update automatically, and you can click the refresh icon on the card to check for updates at any time.

Caller ID Display Name Rules

The CNAM display name has strict carrier requirements:

  • 15 characters maximum
  • Must start with a letter
  • Only letters, numbers, spaces, periods, or commas
  • Must closely match your registered business name — generic names ("Plumber", "City") or unrelated names are rejected
  • Certain terms (e.g. Government, Police, Medicare) are prohibited

Example: legal name "Acme Pools and Spas LLC" → display name "Acme Pools"

Statuses

StatusMeaning
In ReviewSubmitted and awaiting carrier/Twilio vetting
ApprovedActive — calls are signed / caller ID name is registered
RejectedVetting failed — see the rejection details shown on the card

You'll see a separate status for each part of the registration:

  • Business Profile — your verified business identity (required for everything else)
  • Verified Calling (SHAKEN/STIR) — call signing
  • Caller ID Name — CNAM display name (only if you opted in)

If Your Request Is Rejected

Rejection is recoverable — your phone numbers keep working normally, you just don't get the verification benefits yet.

  1. Read the rejection details shown on the card (e.g. business name mismatch, display name issue)
  2. Click Fix & Resubmit
  3. Correct the flagged information and submit again

Common fixes:

  • Make the legal business name exactly match your EIN/tax filing
  • Make sure your website clearly shows the same business name
  • Shorten or adjust the caller ID display name to match your business name

Good to Know

  • New numbers are covered automatically. Any number you purchase after verification is attached to your registration — no action needed.
  • Caller ID name display varies by carrier. CNAM is shown reliably on landlines and many carriers, but some mobile carriers (like Verizon and T-Mobile) use their own caller ID systems, so the name may not appear on every phone.
  • Verification reduces, but doesn't guarantee removal of, spam labels. Number reputation with third-party spam-analytics services is separate. If a specific number is still flagged after approval, contact support.
  • There is no additional charge for requesting verification.
  • Verification covers voice calls. Text messaging approval (A2P registration) is a separate process handled during account onboarding.

FAQ

Do I need to verify each phone number separately? No. One verification covers your whole account — all current numbers and any you add later.

Can I change my caller ID name later? Yes, but changes go through carrier review again. Use Fix & Resubmit if your registration was rejected; contact support if you need to change an approved display name.

Does this affect my AI voice agents? Yes, positively — voice agent numbers get the same verified-calling signature and caller ID name, which improves answer rates on outbound AI calls.
